A missing sewing mojo - found?

I'm finding I'm doing a lot of procrastinating lately, I'm just a bit too tired to make the initial effort to start anything - and that's not just sewing, but anything really.

I think one of the problems with the sewing issue is that I've put on quite a bit of weight that I want to lose again, so it doesn't feel like it's worth putting the effort into sewing something if it won't fit me in a little while.

But... then I realised I'll feel better and happier if I have nice clothes that fit and flatter me as I am now, and feeling happier might spur me into doing more things that make me feel even better - like losing a bit of weight, and more sewing.

So, I decided to sew a circle skirt as that would be flattering, requires no fitting and could be sewn in an evening! Yay! Had the day off work yesterday and sewed it over the course of the afternoon, just finished hemming it tonight (all 15 feet of it!) after letting it hang overnight. Total time to make including cutting out was probably 3 hours. Going to wear it tomorrow, probably with the cream jersey blouse I made.

Now all I need to do is find the camera charger so I can take a photo of it...

London Fashion Week

So, a couple of weeks ago I went to London Fashion Week with my sister. Unfortunately it was the plebs' week rather than the proper shows - paid for tickets instead of invites for us! It was still pretty cool to go along though.

International Wear A Dress Week

So, I joined in with IWADW organised by the International Sewing Conspiracy over at Dress A Day - and, oh my, the dress is certainly not dead! It was such fun seeing the variety of outfits posted in the Flickr group, some of which were absolutely amazing. It's lovely being part of something like this and knowing there are so many other people out there with similar interests.

Also, it's a good way to post the first couple of pictures of things I've made on my own blog!

Tuesday - I look a bit tired here don't I?! This is Simplicity New Look 6748 view D (but with elastic instead of the drawstring as I always wear belts)
Wednesday - Not the clearest photo of my Wednesday outfit, but it made me smile. Skirt (that actually has cool pleats), belt and purple top are bought, blouse is a modified version of a 1964 Simplicity pattern number 5782 in cotton jersey (it was the only thing I finished from last year's Timmel Fabric's SWAP!)

Monday, 16 June 2008

Well, hello there!

Well, I've now had this blog registered for ages, so I thought I better actually post something... So hello!

I'm planning that this blog will be a place for me to show my adventures in sewing, knitting, crochet and other crafts (but mainly sewing) to the wider world, but it's entirely possible I'll have a ramble about something else too occasionally... I've been very much inspired in my sewing endeavours by the online sewing community, of which I've linked to some of my favourite blogs over there on the right. These people have really inspired me to get out my sewing machine and have a go, as well as being an invaluable source of advice and tips. I'm secretly hoping that one day someone will think the same about my blog, but I think that's rather optimistic.

Anyway, I'm on holiday in the deepest darkest depths of the English countryside at the moment, so whilst I have time to make the first post, I don't actually have access to most of my sewing photos to make a start on the posts proper! Well, hopefully now I've not got a scary blank page when I load my blog, I'll be inspired to write some more when I get back up to the big city.

Bye for now, hopefully see you again soon...
